What is Black Friday?
Historically, Black Friday referred to a stock market crash that took place in the 1800s. On that day, after a period of remarkable speculation, the price of gold dropped, and the market crashed. Another popular theory behind the name "Black Friday" is related to how companies in the United States recorded their bookkeeping by hand, with profits noted in black and losses in red. It’s believed that many stores were "in the red" for most of the year but moved "into the black" the day after Thanksgiving when shoppers bought large amounts of discounted products

In a more modern sense, the term refers to the day after Thanksgiving. It has become a shopping day filled with discounts and is considered the kick-off for the holiday season. Black Friday has grown bigger and bigger in Sweden as well, with stores offering big discounts on electronics, toys, and other gifts—or at least giving consumers the chance to buy the hottest products.
